TRANSFORMATION BUILT FROM REAL LIFE

Kamarlo "Marlo Da Motivator' Spooner is an 6-time published author and he is one of the most impactful system-impacted motivational speakers and financial literacy educators in the country. His work lives at the intersection of mindset transformation, real-world financial discipline, and lived experience that cannot be taught in a classroom.

FROM INCARCERATION TO EDUCATION

Once written off by the system, Marlo graduated a year late from a continuation high school with an academic GPA of 1.42. Today, he holds six associate degrees and a bachelor’s degree, graduating on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters.

His journey from incarceration to higher education, authorship, business ownership, and national speaking engagements is not theory, it is lived proof that transformation is possible with the right tools, discipline, and mindset.

15+ YEARS OF REAL IMPACT

For more than 15 years, Marlo has motivated tens of thousands of individuals across jails, prisons, schools, nonprofit organizations, county agencies, and corporate environments.

Organizations trust Marlo because he does more than inspire, he equips people with practical tools they can use immediately.

In 2017, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) featured my journey from formerly incarcerated individual to volunteer speaker and community leader. Although the original online article is no longer available, I have preserved the original publication below. Since then, I have continued serving correctional institutions throughout California, speaking to thousands of incarcerated individuals while expanding my work through education, curriculum development, and community leadership.

What People Say!

“PHENOMENAL, INSPIRING, AND HOPEFUL”

"As a Transitions teacher working in a prison, I was often concerned that my students did not feel that I could relate to their circumstances. They knew that I cared, but many times after I taught a lesson about parole or a related issue, students would say, “That’s not how it works.” The main obstacle that faced them was overcoming the stigma of incarceration once they were released. Many of them could not fathom how they could possibly be seen as anything but an ex-felon. Your presentation was so phenomenal because you took your audience through your journey from childhood to young adulthood to incarceration to successful reentry in such a vivid, powerful way. As you spoke, I watched some of my most withdrawn, resistant students come to life. The transformations you inspired were a joy to observe. I would recommend you to any group that is searching for an uplifting, motivational, authentic speaker. You have a gift of speaking with passion, power and humor and making your audience feel the genuine hope you have for them. Even more importantly, you instill in them hope for themselves, something that most of them have abandoned."
